Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings
The earth’s process of creating a diamond takes an enormous amount of pressure and between 1 and 4 billion years – clearly, it’s no simple task. But what if we could fast-forward the process without losing any of the brilliance and clarity of a diamond grown within the earth?
Introducing Argyle Jewellers’ line of lab grown diamond engagement rings: diamond engagement rings that don’t cost the earth, but are as beautiful as a precious stone created by the earth. Argyle Jewellers offers a range of lab-grown diamonds that are both affordable and fully certified, providing both quality and affordability. By eliminating the mining process, purchasing a lab-grown diamond can be a responsible choice. Our lab-grown diamonds possess the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as mined diamonds and are available in all cuts, colourless varieties, as well as rare coloured diamonds.
There is no difference between a mined diamond and a lab grown diamond: both possess the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as mined diamonds and are just as sparkly and scintillating.
How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Made?
Lab-grown diamonds are made using advanced technological processes that mimic the natural formation of diamonds found within the earth’s crust.
The most common method that is used when it comes to creating stones for our lab grown diamond engagement rings is called Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD). During CVD, a small diamond “seed” – usually a single diamond slice the width of a human hair – is placed in a chamber containing a carbon-rich gas. The chamber is heated to extremely high temperatures, causing the gas to break down into its carbon atoms. These atoms then settle on the diamond seed, layer by layer, gradually building up a larger diamond crystal. The process can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on the desired size of the diamond.
Another method of creating lab-grown diamonds is known as High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT). This involves placing a small diamond seed in a chamber filled with carbon and other materials, and then subjecting it to intense pressure and heat of up to 2,200℃. The carbon melts and dissolves into the diamond seed, which causes it to grow into a larger diamond. As these diamonds are treated, HPHT Diamonds are not selected by Argyle Jewellers.
Both CVD and HPHT methods produce diamonds that are identical in chemical and physical composition to naturally occurring diamonds. However, lab-grown diamonds are generally more affordable than mined diamonds, and they can be produced in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
